Sunday September 6th 10.30am-3.30pm with 45mins for lunch Teacher: Karly Michelle This creative retreat, open to anyone - artist or not, is an opportunity to reset, reflect and explore your art making practice over a reflective day of exploration. Artist and Art & Alchemy Gallery director, Karly will lead you through a series of exercises of mark making, material exploration, and - weather dependent - foraging and observational walking as part of the process into creating a unique and individual artists book. Using a range of materials, the aim of the day will be to explore and play allowing your artist book to develop. Various options of type of book will be explored, as will the theme (see below). For any skill level in those who have a willingness to play and explore. The practical creating process will include collage and mixed media, so specific painting or drawing skills are not required, however, if you already have those skills, they will be able to be utilised. Theme You are invited to bring with you a favourite passage from a book, poem, song lyrics to help inspire your artist's book. You may prefer a photo, colour or even an emotion you wish to explore. However, other material will also be provided for you to utilise if you don't have anything in particular you wish to bring. Materials provided. There will be a lunch period of 45mins but lunch is NOT provided. Please bring lunch or plan to order lunch from the cafe over the road (there will not be time to travel elsewhere). You can pre-order your lunch before the session starts, details will be provided when booking to help you prepare. Tea & coffee station provided. It is highly recommended that you bring appropriate gear for the weather of the day, as we suggest that during the lunch period you take a short walk or at least go outside for an inspiring change of scenery. There is a short walk with public sculptures directly opposite the gallery, further information will be provided on booking.
