(Mostly) Second Sunday of the Month 1.30-3.30pm (Some other dates may also be offered) Teacher: Karly will be the regular facilitator, but there may be other teachers at times. These are casual sessions to encourage creative play using a variety of materials with a focus on mixed media and collage. This is suitable for anyone at any level as they exemplify the idea of experimentation and engaging with visual art as a means of exploring and expressing our experiences and feelings. Come with something you want to express, or come ready to be inspired.The process will include identifying the feeling or thoughts we want to engage with, how to sort through appropriate materials and techniques and then an approach for playing and experimenting. This may include learning about and discussing things like how to avoid overwhelm (e.g. too many materials, too little instruction), how to get started, the process of ‘letting go’ and not thinking too much, while still remaining engaged. The main aim is on experimentation, rather than artwork resolution. Many materials provided (texture, collage and recycled items, paper, some paints) however, please bring any appropriate works in progress that you may want to continue working on. Given the adaptability of college, this session is open to anyone, no experience is necessary, just a willingness to play and create. Ideal for anyone who would appreciate some creative connection and more experienced artists may appreciate the opportunity to explore without expectation. Paper and items to create on and with are provided but you may also prefer to bring or purchase a canvas board from the art shop (between$4-$10) or a stretched canvas (various prices). There may be other speciality items you wish to purchase as well. Participants are also always welcome to bring items to donate to the large creative pile of collage materials that has been built up over time, such as: - old cards, postcards, (not private letters, magazines, advertisements, newspaper, wrapping paper, play cards, scrapbooking materials, other light paper materials such as tissue paper...etc. This helps keep our resources varied.
