Service Description

Sunday 20th Sep 1-4pm 3 hour session Create a meaningful shadow box to honour a person, event, or significant moment in your life. This reflective workshop is designed for anyone who has special memorabilia, keepsakes, or personal memories they would like to preserve in a beautiful framed display. A shadow box is a deep, glass‑fronted frame that allows you to arrange small items in a visually rich, storytelling format. What to bring - speciality memorabilia items - support items - shadow box Participants will need to bring at least one speciality item to build their shadow box memory around. Multiple items can be brought (it is better to bring too many and not include them than not enough). The size of the item is important though. Please see info below re frames. As the aim is to reflect and honour your memory or person, you are encouraged to bring other items that may help finish the box. This can include a variety of options that help you reflect your person, place, event… (e.g. colour or style wise). For example, you may like to bring some small amounts of material that are in a colour your person loved, or dried flowers they loved, or other natural items that are appropriate. Recommended options include; material, paper, book paper, letters, postcards, cards, notes, ribbon, paint, collage items, sewing, things the person has made and more. And given how personal this is, it is best to have a variety of options, so please bring anything you think may be helpful, but we will also have a selection of materials for you to draw from as well. Because memory‑based projects can be emotional and sometimes take time, this session focuses on planning, designing, and starting your layout. Completing the entire process on the day may not be possible, especially if you realise mid-project that there are more or speciality items that you would also like to include. However, the main aim is to help you develop a clear, supported path forward for creating a meaningful tribute, which will be completed. Shadow Box Frame Participants need to provide their own shadow box frame. In particular, please be aware of how wide the shadow box is and make sure your items fit within that width. The gallery will have some shadow boxes for sale, most likely for an additional min cost of $25. Email us prior to booking if you wish to confirm size and cost at art@artandalchemygallery.com Minimum numbers are required for this class to run.
