Helen Brauns

Helen Brauns is a Melbourne based artist whose work celebrates the vivid beauty of the Australian landscape. Her paintings often depict wildflowers, seascapes, and the distinctive Australian bush and animals, rendered in a vibrant, contemporary style. Working primarily in acrylics — and occasionally in watercolour — Helen transforms her subjects from life to canvas through expressive brushstrokes, layered glazes, and a bold use of colour and contrast that bring depth and energy to each composition. Her works radiate a sense of joy, using uplifting colour palettes and strong compositions to convey optimism and connection to the natural world.

Although she discovered painting early in life, Helen initially pursued a career in fashion and design, studying at the Melbourne College of Textiles (1980–83) before spending three decades in print advertising for Australia’s leading women’s magazines. In 2010, she rekindled her passion for painting, exploring new techniques and developing the confident, distinctive visual language that defines her work today.

Inspired by the Australian outdoors, Helen’s art reflects her love of the beach, hiking, camping, and skiing across the country’s diverse landscapes — from bushland and beaches to deserts and mountains. Helen also enjoys portraiture and the many cultures she has experienced in her travels. Her goal as an artist is to capture the essence of these experiences and share the joy and vitality she finds in different Cultures and in nature’s beauty.
