Frequently asked questions
Classes & Workshops
The most straight forward method is to book via the website.
We have art courses (multiple classes up to a full term, that you attend weekly or regularly) and art classes (single art classes you attend once).
However, you can also
come into the gallery and book in person. This is the best option if you wish to pay by cash.
call us on 03 9115 2721 during opening hours.
email us on art@artandalchemygallery.com
If booking via phone or email there may be an additional charge when taking payment.
It depends on the class or workshop. The information about each session will specify what is expected of you.
In general though, if you have booked into a term class (a class that runs for 6 or more weeks in a row) then you will need to provide your own materials and the information will include what materials are expected. We understand if you do not have everything for session 1 - the teacher will provide information in this session about what you need, and you can use materials we have on hand until you get your own.
If you book into a workshop (something with less than 5 sessions) then it is more likely that materials will be provided.
However, it is always important to check the class/workshop listing to be certain what is required.
Yes, there are two free carparking areas right near the gallery. One at the Kalorama Lookout and one on Ridge Road.
It is normally quite easy to find a park, although on very fine weekends it may be a little busier.
Please always take care though when navigating the intersection as it can be tricky!
Please do not park directly in front of the gallery on either Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, or Ridge Road, as it can block visibility and access. However, given there is not ideal disability access, feel free to park there if you require disability parking, however, we ask you to be mindful of parking in a way that still means the paths to the gallery are accessible. See our Access Information for more
If you purchase a class or workshop, you can get a refund up to seven days prior to the session running. This is because we need to know if there are enough people attending and/or to notify anyone who might be on the waiting list that there is now a space for them.
There may occasionally be circumstances where other arrangements are possible, this will be noted on the advertising on our website.
If you miss a class or workshop session, there are NO REFUNDS, or make ups- a purchase of classes or workshops comes with the expectation that you understand the dates and times and are available to attend all the dates.
See our T&C's document for more.
All of our art teachers are practicing artists who come with extensive skill and experience. Our teachers teach in their areas of specialisation so you are always getting people who are experts in the skills and knowledge they are teaching.
Except for particular instances, all of our teachers are also gallery artists. You can check out their profile by looking for their name under the artists on the top menu.
Classes & workshops are predominantly designed for ages 15+ unless stated that they are family friendly which allows for 10+ with an accompanying adult.
However, if you have someone under 14 who might be interested, let us know as this helps us know what people are interested in and we do hope to have some classes for younger folk soon.
Our approach at A&A Gallery to teaching art classes is the prioritising of quality over quantity.
We are very aware of how much physical space we have and while we want to maximise it, we never overfill our classes. We never have above 12 students in our studio space for any creative activity, and for many classes our maximum is 10-11.
This means that you will always have a very personalised experience where the teacher will be able to talk with you directly, offer demonstrations and track how you are going.
