This month we welcome

Tania McCallum

to Art & Alchemy

Tania is a Healesville artist who creates beautiful layered abstract artworks made from plaster, lime, tannin washes and mineral powders. The end result are textured, tactile pieces that mimic the perfect imperfection of natural forms and that reflect the influence of light and the passage of time and her creative process where she often chooses to work outside even through winter!

Her work is perfect for anyone looking for earthy - nature inspired work, neutral colors and artwork so tactile you just want to touch it.

Check out the instagram post from today to see more, and come into the gallery to see her pieces in real life.

New Classes

This term I am returning to some teaching which I am really looking forward to. And what I am looking forward to even more is that I am offering some classes in two areas that I particularly love teaching in:

The first are is in creative development and the creative process.

For example, I have an Artists Book class coming up using collage and mixed media. Artist Books are the most flexible of genres and they can be almost anything that is book-like.

This sessions is to encourage creative play and experimentation. We'll look at different forms of artists books and then begin filling up our own blank page with layers and texture to create a paper book.

This can be visually-focused book, but you may also like to bring an experience, a poem or lyric you love to inspire you. No experience needed!!

The other part of creative development is the growing evidence for how beneficial creative engagement is for our wellbeing. I am taking a Creative Wellbeing class where we will look at some of the distinct health benefits of creative engagement for everyone (you do not need to be an artist), explore and begin to experience some creative practices you might like to incorporate into your everyday life and then begin to plan what this might practically look like in your life.

The second area that I particularly like teaching is life storytelling.

A few years ago I completed a PhD research a palliative care biography program. I started this program because I was already interested in and had been exploring life storytelling through my artwork.

I will be teaching a Lifestorytelling class where I outline the many different ways into life storytelling, whether you want to tell your own or to help someone else tell theirs. I'll introduce various methods, discuss the various pros and cons, look at resources and technology and then begin to plan your own path. This is perfect for anyone who might want to tell their own story or help someone else with theirs but aren't sure where to start, or perhaps have already started and gotten a bit stuck.

I'd love to see you at any of these classes - plus you can check out our other upcoming classes below.

If you are really fast, you might sneak into the last few places for this coming Sunday's

Introduction to oil class.

We then have a couple more drawing classes

plus a range of new classes such as those from above.

Term 4 coming soon!!

Also - anyone interested in classes for kids.... we may have something for you soon!!!!
