Creative Classes & Retreats

From Karly, Art & Alchemy Gallery Director:

Melbourne weather is living up to its unpredictability at the moment! However, whatever the weather outside, you can always come inside the gallery.

I’ve expanded our Creative Community Sessions to Friday and Sunday 10.30-12.30 so we have one weekday and one weekend session. Last weekend we had a great time with some families who came in to do collage - I put up a short video about it on instagram earlier today. If you have your own project please join us for some social creativity. If you would like to purchase a ‘kit’ we will provide you with materials, a creative prompt and some instructions on how to get going. Learning how to develop our creative play and flow is becoming an even more important skill.

This might be a good time to let you know we are quite active on social media - you can follow us on Instagram or Facebook and recently I actually got our YouTube page together! There’s lots of information about all the classes we offer on these sites.

Call Out

A call out / reminder to anyone who has attended any class at Art & Alchemy Gallery (or Kapi) in 2026 can apply for our 2026 Student Exhibition. You can apply here (if you aren't sure of all the details, that's ok, apply with what you do know, we'll check them with you / help you out, before anything is printed). It's going to be a great opportunity to meet up with other people involved in the gallery and who has attended classes and to see what people have been creating. Make sure to check the key dates: Applications are due by Friday 13th Nov. You can watch a call out video here.

Short Retreats that are coming up

Enhancing Creative Wellbeing: Learn about how creative engagement can benefit our lives and our health and begin to practice some of the activities that you can take back into your everyday life.

Creative Rituals for Remembrance for All Souls which will be a gentle session of considering how to develop rituals and practices in remembrance of others (or perhaps for grief more generally). How we engage with rituals and similar practices has long been an interest of mine and been part of my various studies and I believe that (helpful) rituals are inherently creative in their development.. I spoke a little about it here

I’ve been chatting to various people who come into the gallery about Life Storytelling session and what that means for us in this time, so if you are interested in learning about how we might be able to approach recording families stories and experiences, you may like to join us. There a short video about this session here
